GUILD SKILLS
Guild skills are obtain at the guild in the forest with the exception of the Ieatsu skill which is learn later when traveling to Shangala. A heor must first join the guild for 4000 Marks and then purchase each guild skill individully. The price of skills goes up with each learned skill. The first skill cost 1000 marks and the second 2000 and so on. Guild skills benefit heroes in various ways and heros may have twice their level in number of guild skils to be learned. For example a level 12 hero may have no more than 24 skills.
The Fighter Guild skill adds one attack, and grants the use of berserk during battle. When learning this skill the heor will lose 2 wits and 2 charm for each fighter skill.
The Mage Guild skill grants the use of Hypnosis, and allows the use of jewels. Quartz with 2 skills, opal with 4, garnet with 6, emerald with 8, ruby with 10, turquois with 12, and diamond with 14. See the stones uses listed above for the affects. This also increases one skill for each guild skill learned. This will cost the hero 2 guts and 2 charm for each mage skill learned.
The Trader Guild Skill adds one defense per skill, grants the use of Backstab and Swindle. If the hero chooses to run away during battle it doesn't take up a quest. This will take 2 guts and 2 wits for each trader skill learned.
The Sage Skill automatically "forsees" a mezmerize, backstab or swindle, or an ieatsu during battle and prevents damage to the hero. It will take 2 guts 2 wits and 2 charm from the hero each time the sage skill is learned.
The Ieatsu skill is the only skill not learned at the guild. It is learned later in shangala from the Samurai. When you can obtain a Bushido token and attempt to "give bushido token" to the Samurai he may teach a Ieatsu skill. This will take 3 guts 32 wits and 3 charm per each skill learned.

Guild Skills
What is meant by ... F:4/4 M:0/2 T:1/2 S: 3/7... ?
F = Fighter, M = Mage, T = Trader S = Sage. It shows the total number of your skills and the used skills. So 4/4 means you have 4 fighter skills left for the day, while 2/4 would mean that you have already used 2 of them and 2 are left.
There is another skill called the Ieatsu or Samurai skill. This is only available after you reach the area of Shangala, you must hire a boat for 50,000 marks in merchant lane to get here. To obtain this skill, you must first have a Bushido Token. You can find these in Shangala, and although I'm told they're available elsewhere (e.g., the Fenriss Mts.) I have yet to see one outside the Docks. After you have the Bushido Token, pay very careful attention while questing in Shangala. If you're lucky, you'll run into a Samurai that is willing to have you "present your token." If you wish to gain the Ieatsu skill, proceed by clicking on this button. BEWARE: By clicking on this button, your Guts and/or Wits will decease slightly. Nothing you can't repair, but annoying all the same.
After you select the "present your token" button, you will have access to the Samurai skill of
Ietsu. As far as I know, this is a powerful attack that takes the place of a normal attack phase. (Like what a Beserk does.) I find them useful for fighting the
Dragon/Shogun/Samurai...
You must have a guild slot open for the Ietsu skill.
How guilds affect item uses
for every..
4 fighter guilds you get an extra item use...
6 mage guilds you get an extra items use...
5 trader guilds you get an extra items use...
7 Sage guilds you get an extra items use...
so for instance if you have 4 fighter , 6 mage guilds and 5 trader guilds you will have 4 item uses that you can use in combat..if you have 16 fighter guilds you will get 5 uses..
How they affect gaining of stats..
Figher guilds/Bezerks..on a successful bezerk where you kill the creature..you have a 5 times higher chance of gaining a gut point..
Mage guilds/hypnotize..on a successful hypnotize..where you actually hypnotize the creature..you have a 5 times higher chance of gaining a wit point..
Trader guilds/Backstab+Swindle..on a successful backstab..where you kill the creature..you have a 3 times higher chance of gaining both a gut and a charm point..
Swindle..when you successfull swindle a creature..you have a 5 times higher chance of gaining a charm point..
How it affects attack defence
Each Fighter Guild adds +1 to your attack
Each Trader Guild adds +1 to your defense
Other stuff
Sage skills have a good chance of protecting you from being mezzed, swindled, backstabbed, or from someone using Ieatsu against you.
Ieatsu does not give you an increased chance for gaining more stats and does not affect item uses either when you do get the guilds you do lose a bit of stats..BUT it pays off in the long run..
you can only have 2 guild levels for every one level your character is.. you are level 15 you can only have 30 guilds and so on..try to plan out so you can get more item uses , cause they really help , especially when you get to fighting those tougher creatures and you need to heal between
attacks in combat..
It is good to diversify, but not too much. Essentially, only have 5 fighter skills, as this makes sure you don't wake up sick or injured, or lose quests. Fighter and trading skills help your attack and defend (fighter +1 attack, trader +1 defense). Don't get too much mage skills, as you don't tend to use them later on. Iseatu skills are nice, but costly (-3 guts, -3 wits, -3 charm). Just get 2 or 3 to kill some shoguns or dragons. Stick with Trading skills, as they will be of most use in the later stages of the game.
Q. What are the benefits of guild skills
A. Fighter Guild- adds one attack, allows the use of berserk
Mage Guild- allows the use of Hypnosis, allows the use of jewels and adds one skill
Trader Guild- adds one defense, allows the use of Backstab and Swindle, and running away doesn't take up a quest
Samurai Guild- allows the use of ieatsu.
Q. How much does each guild cost?
A. Other then money, each guild costs:
Getting a guild takes
Fighter: 2 wits, 2 charm
Magery: 2 guts, 2 charm
Trader: 2 guts, 2 wits
Sage: 2 guts, 2 wits, 2 charm
Ieatsu: 3 guts, 3 wits, 3 charm
Q. How many guild skills should I get?
Which guild skills should I get?
Ultimately the distribution of guilds skills is up to you. But this is what I think is the most efficient I recommend getting 5 fighter, 12 mage, 7 Sage skills and trader skills in a factor of 5 (5, 10, 15, etc) and about 5 or so ieatsu. The one reason for this is because you would gain an extra use in battle for every:
4 Fighter Skills
5 Trader Skills
6 Mage Skills
7 Sage Skills
Now for the 5, 6 format… if you have 5 fighter skills, this causes you not to lose quests or get sick when you wake up (saving you valuable quests and marks), the 12 mage skills allow you to use all the useful jewels (don’t get more than 12 mage skills because there isn’t anymore jewels after that). Don’t worry about not having many berserks for backstabs are better because you can use them one you first attack. Get as many trader skills as possible, especially if you want to go fight Evil Fred or the dragon. Also this allows you to run away without costing you a quest. The advantage of having ieatsus’ are that it is stronger than backstabs but that is the only advantage…
Ieatsu’s cost more (9 total stats), and it has no other benefits.
After you have 5 fighter, 6 mage, 7 sage, 5x trader and 5 ieatsu, try to get 8 fighter, 12 mage, 14 Sage, 5x trader and 10 ieatsu for a grand total of 5+(trader/5) uses in battle, all the jewels, no problems waking up or running away and protection from nasty attacks.
Just rememnber, don’t get so many guild skills that your stats become negative. I try to set limits on my characters, like I tell my self I won’t let this character’s guts go below 200, etc.
